Developing African Rivers for nation-building

We develop pragmatic, value-for-money river engineering and transport solutions that unlock African rivers.

Barge traffic on the Yangtze River

How Rivers Build Nations.

In many major economies, inland waterways form the backbone of bulk cargo transport:

  • China: Yangtze River, Pearl River and the Grand Canal
  • United States: Mississippi River system
  • Europe: Rhine and Danube rivers

These systems offer significant advantages, including:

  • Lower energy consumption.
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants.
  • Reduced noise and lower accident rates compared to road transport per tonne-kilometre.
  • Less congestion and reduced road maintenance costs.

Ankobra – Phase One

Our first project is to make the River Ankobra navigable from Prestea to the Atlantic Ocean. We have EPA and Water Resource Commission permits to begin construction works and are finalizing engineering and commercial arrangements.

The work will include:

  • Installation of 4 locks and weirs to allow year-round navigation including during the dry season
  • Dredging of the river to give a 3m deep channel for navigation
  • Reconstruction of two bridges that are too low for navigation

Treating polluted rivers for clean industrial water

Illegal mining loads the Ankobra with clay and silt. We abstract that water, treat it to industrial specification, and supply it reliably to three mines — Wassa, Edikan and Chirano.

  • Two-stage settling removes the heavy clay washed in by illegal mining
  • Coagulation, disinfection and filtration bring it to industrial quality
  • A dedicated pipeline network delivers treated water to each mine

Our ambition to build nations

We develop and invest in complex river engineering to allow African regions to develop with barge transport, irrigation and flood control.

Following a successful Ankobra Phase One, we will explore other exciting opportunities to develop similar rivers and build opportunities for investment and new projects around those rivers.

There are three unique ways we approach our projects:

  • We develop ambitious, complex custom solutions in challenging environments
  • We have an open book, value-focused partnership approach
  • We co-invest with our clients in the solution

The Ankobra Corridor

The Ankobra Corridor connects inland industry to deep-water ports with reliable river infrastructure. Explore how targeted interventions reshape the river by dragging the slider to compare conditions before and after our upgrades.
